Finding your way back to one another *
Adult family relationships can be some of the most meaningful (and most complex) journeys we walk. Years of shared history and expectations often shape how families relate to one another long into adulthood. Intergenerational trauma, blurred boundaries, or strained in-law relationships can quietly influence dynamics, leaving families feeling stuck on the same difficult terrain.
Family relationships in adulthood are rarely straightforward. They are shaped by patterns passed down through generations, cultural and familial beliefs, life transitions, and current environments. Marriage, parenting, caregiving for aging parents, or blending families can all shift the landscape, often bringing boundary challenges and in-law tensions to the surface.
In family therapy, we focus on building understanding and communication skills. Together, we explore how intergenerational wounds impact the present and how communication breaks down when expectations go unspoken. The work is about helping each person learn to relate to one another with greater clarity and mutual respect.
Adult family therapy can help address:
Intergenerational trauma and family patterns
Tension between adult children and parents
Sibling conflict or estrangement
In-law dynamics
Boundary challenges and emotional enmeshment
Caregiving stress and shifting family roles
My role is to walk alongside you as you examine where your family has been, understand how the past shapes the present, and chart a more grounded, connected path forward.
Adult family therapy sessions are available in person in Northbrook or virtually for families across Illinois.
